The Laboratory for Ocean Innovation (LOI) at Texas A&M will be the focus of a special session at the SNAME Offshore Symposium to be held in Houston on March 31, 2026. The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has been working alongside the LOI and the session will cover recent progress in marine research including: ammonia safety and spill concerns in marine environments, an advanced framework for autonomous marine navigation, safety and situational awareness while wearing augmented reality (AR) headgear, and ship surveying using images and movies with software that detects and classifies objects. The presentations will summarize these multi-year efforts and discuss future work.
